Sally ButtonWriter, Artist

Sally is a writer, artist and maker based in Lancaster. She has previously lived and worked in Cornwall and London.

Her practice considers place, textiles and the body with thematics relating to memory and abstraction, attention and care, rest and vulnerability, nature and sensation, seeds and growth. Underpinned by meditations on cyclical nature of time, she questions and inhabits these points of change or balance, of coexisting states, that border the material and immaterial.

In writing she moves through shifting forms and narratives: expect observations, digressions, memories, affinities, reimaginings. She converses closely through and with art and artists, other writing and writers, to examine the histories and futures of material cultures and literature, but also the act of writing itself.

Her artistic process is a thread between the inner and outer self, or the individual and the collective, finding language[s] of expression, and other or unknown worlds through making. Making is a way to find comfort and wonder in the smallness and the expansiveness of our world, it’s capacity for growth and healing and art’s potential to explore, expose, even catalyse this.
